             Harper, Lee. To Kill A Mockingbird. 1960, fiction 288 pages
             The setting is established as an old town called Maycomb county Alabama. The setting is an old quite town in Maycomb county Alabama. This town is said to be similar to Monroeville, Alabama where the author was born and grew up. The time frame is about the 1930s when the depression is setting in and racial equality is still not where it is in the North. The setting in this novel is important because it takes place in the Deep South in the state of Alabama after the Civil War which promotes a black-white conflict
             The narrator and the protagonist is Scout. Scout is also a tomboy. She goes through a moral change through the story. She has been taught to believe in the natural goodness in every person. During the trial when Tom loses her faith in the goodness in everyone is tested.
             Another important character is Atticus. He is a lawyer in Maycomb County that recognizes the good in everyone. One thing that I have noticed about him is that he is one of the few that believe in racial equality.
             Atticus' son Jem is Scout's older brother. In the beginning of the story he would play with scout but through the story he matures and doesn't hang out with her as much, but still keeps an eye out for her. Also, his ideals of goodness are shaken by the trial
             The first important thing that happens is Scout, Jem, and Dill is starting to act out spooky stories. Well, Dill is getting really interested in the story about the Radley house. The kids are real childish and they believe that a man named Boo lives in this creepy old house, but are not a hundred percent sure of his existence. Later the next summer the 3 of them sneak into the Radley house after finding gifts in the knothole of the tree. While on the property Nathan Radley starts to shoot at them and Jem loses his pants.
