             Obesity is a common disorder amongst our society today. It is caused by many factors, including excessive caloric intake, lack of physical activity, as well as genetic influences. Excess body fat is caused by an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure which are brought on by factors such as age, family history of obesity, genes, and lifestyle.
             Doctors use several methods to diagnose obesity. Body mass index (BMI) is a calculation used by doctors to determine oneÆs body weight relative to their height. BMI is calculated by weight in pounds divided by height in inches squared, and multiplied by 705. A BMI of 30 or more is considered obese and 40 or more is considered severely obese. Doctors will also measure waist circumference, associated with abdominal fat. Weight gain around the abdominal area shows a high health risk because the fat is more metabolically active than weight gained thighs or hips. Excess abdominal fat is associated with an increase in blood cholesterol and insulin resistance, which may result in diabetes.
             Several types of cancer are associated with obesity, including cancer of the breast, uterus, gallbladder, cervix, ovary, and colon. Those suffering from obesity statistically have higher blood pressure and higher blood cholesterol, which may lead to heart disease and stroke. Also, obese people are more likely to develop diabetes due to a decline in glucose tolerance. Other side effects are sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, gout, gallbladder disease,infertility, kidney failure, blindness, and even death.
             Treatment options for obesity range from exercise and proper diet to very low calorie diets, drug therapy, and surgical procedures. Doctors recommend their obese patients to change their diets gradually, eating more nutritional foods that are lower in calories, and to add some form of aerobic exercise which help to reduce body fat and impro
