the lady with the dog
As a child you dream of being married, having kids and living happily ever after. The day has finally arrived and you marry the man or woman of your dreams. Is this the person whom you were supposed to marry? Will this relationship last till death do you part? Who's to say you will not have an affair. Affairs occur on a daily basis. Everyone has his or her reason for being unfaithful. In the short stories, The Lady with the Dog (Chekhov) and The Lady with the Pet Dog (Oates), infidelity plays a huge part. Dmitri felt as if she "loved without any genuine feeling" (Chekhov p.874). Anna (The Lady with the Pet Dog, Oates) is not "comfortable" (Oates p.884) with her husba

She realized she loved her husband and her husband loved her even through the "craziest of accidents" (Oates p. Even though he is unfaithful to his wife, he seemed bitter about his experiences (Chekhov p. Anna is "disgusted" at the sight of her lover (Oates p. Women knew of his cheating ways, but "there was something attractive and elusive which allured women and disposed them in his favor" (Chekhov p. As you can see, being unfaithful is a lot of work; you are constantly living two separate lives. 871), but could not go two days without them (Chekhov p.
