handmaid's tale
How would you respond to a Gilead society, as depicted in Margaret Atwoodd's, The Handmaid's Tale? Would you be a hero and fight for what you believe in or would you succumb and accept the conditions impinged upon you? The women at the Red Center admire her; ". Offred displays that she feels erased by time, no longer a presence in her daughter's existence. She is a negative example of a negative hero. In addition, Offred considers the offer by the doctor to impregnate her. Offred knows however, that saying no could lead her being shipped to the colonies for he could declare her barren or cancerous. Works CitedAtwood, Margaret. A hero does something useful; resignation is not an option"(3).
