             Socialization: Christ Against Culture:
             A lot of the idea that Christ is opposed to culture makes sense. There's a lot of biblical support for it and it can easily resonate with one's experience.
             Jesus said, ""Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15) This strong language leaves little defensible gray area in the mind and heart of a Christian.
             Nobody from my high school really went to my church youth group – my church was full of rich old white people within the thriving, dissonant, vibrant and diverse culture of the Bay Area. Surely, this Christianity must be opposed to the culture I understand. This rang true as well in the social scene at my high school, where I didn't go to parties because I saw them as in opposition to my faith.
             everybody seems to want to be either a youth pastor or a homemaker. People take somewhat of a paradoxical view of their careers, thinking primarily of the ministry impact they may carry. outside cultural influences are frowned up or even judged by the Christian majority.
             If we look at our country and even our world, the economy and political theater are sometimes corrupt and often lead by people of dubious moral character. The consumerism and pride eminent in our world are against the values of God.
             Conservative rhetoric at Whitworth (not that it's necessarily untrue) often involves language about "the world" and how it's out to get us, because we take to heart the "either/or" standpoint propounded by Tertullian.
             Socialization: Christ Transforming Culture:
             "You are the salt of the earth.... You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.... Let your light shine and praise your Father in heaven." (Matt. 5:13-14)
