             In America today, one of the hottest topics of discuss is steroids. Steroids, which was first used in the mid 1930's, are synthetic versions of the male hormone testosterone. Today I'd like to cover all aspects of steroids; from the users and their reasons for abuse to the different effects of steroid abuse.
             There are two types of steroids Anabolic and catabolic steroids.
             One being catabolic steroids, which are mostly taken by non-athletes, are used to treat muscle swelling and inflamation, asthma, or bronchitis.
             The most popular being anabolic, which is mostly used by athletes. Their primary purpose is to build muscles and to help your muscles recovery time from a hard workout.
             Most of its publicity being negative as in Pres. Bush's state of union address, in which he called for pro athletes to stop the used of these drugs. Another negatively association with steroids has to due with the Balco Co., a bay area laboratory which was brought before a federal grand jury for it's alleged distribution to pro athletes.
             Steroids can be taken in three forms: injection, pills, and/or patches that absord the substance through the skin.
             With steroid use you body may experience certain draw backs, one being a drastic change in behavior aka "roid rage".
             With steroid use, not only your targeted muscles get larger, but your heart gets bigger also. This increases a users chance for sudden heart attacks. Another problem that may occur is arrythmia, which is an interruption of the rhythm of a heartbeat.
             Tendons are also stressed because they attach your muscles to bones, and as your muscles get bigger more pressure is put on the tendons.
             By taking steroids their the mouth you can increase your chance of getting tumors. This can lead to internal bleeding and liver cancer.
