Plato is one of the most famous and influential philosophers of all time. Writing several books, pertaining to many different topics. He learned his skill from the father of modern philosophy and learned it well. Effecting countless minds of his time, and many more extending all the way to present day. But what were his ideas, and how do they help shape our views today? Plato was born with the name Aristocles, in Athens, about, 427 BC, and died there about eighty years later. He got the name Plato, meaning "broad," at a young age due to his wide shoulders and prominent brow. As a young man Plato served in the military for six years. With ambition of having a political career. Although he did not fully believe in the Athenian democracy, do to his close studies of Socrates. Plato believed in a king's rule, leaving Athens until, "kings were philosophers or philosophers were kings." After leaving Athens he traveled many places learning all he could from these cultures. Upon his return to Athens Plato created a school called the Academy, where some of the world greatest philosophers were educated. Which lasted until Emperor Justinian closed all schools of philosophy in 529A.D, 900 years later. The goal of
