             "Dead Man Walking!" This sound rings through each and every death row inmate a thousand times a day; but should it? Capital punishment is one of the most controversial topics among Americans today. Since every person has there own opinion on this topic, either for or against, the question always raised is "Is it morally right." The numbers of problems with the death penalty are enormous. Capital punishment is the lawful infliction of the death penalty, and since ancient times, it has been used to punish a large variety of offenses. The penalty of death is reserved for the most serious and detested crimes. The legal system must sentence the death penalty to capital crime offenders. Criminals convicted of murder or rape need to be executed because they are dangerous to the world and the human race. Hanging, firing squad, electrocution, gas, and lethal injection are all forms of capital punishment. They are all methods of execution used by the American government to punish murderers. Thirty-eight out of fifty states and Washington D.C. have the death penalty as a method of punishment. The subject of capital punishment has been under debate for a long time. Some believe it is a good way to punish murderers. Others call it immoral and unethical. I personally believe that it should be used as a punishment by our government. There are a number of fronts that the death penalty is argued upon. Within Ernest van den Haags' article of "The Ultimate Punishment: A Defense" issues of race, suffering and brutalization of capital punishment, and miscarriages of justice are all touched upon.
