             Violence is a major problem in the United States. With the rise in youth related violence, society feels they need to find a cause or something to blame for all of the violence. They have decided to point the finger of blame at the media. The media is an awesome source of entertainment and should not be changed because of real-life violence. Although the media can influence society in many ways, media violence is not harmful and does not cause real-life violence. "I watched that movie and I didn't kill anyone," is something almost all people can say. This is because they can distinguish right from wrong and fantasy from reality. Some kids may not be able to distinguish this, but it is the parents responsibility. Media violence does not promote actual violence, any studies have tried to prove other wise, but the fact is they are all just estimations and theories.
             Media violence is not a factor in the violence problem today. The studies done today are not concrete enough to prove that media violence in a contributing factor to the increase in real-life violent crimes. David Satcher, the U.S. Surgeon General, states at a press conference in January of 2001, "As a risk factor for violence the impact of media violence to date is very small compared to other things we looked at, very small indeed. We hope that the report is clear. Some people may not be very happy with this, but that is where the science is today and I think our responsibility is to stick with the science."
