morality
Morality has almost the same three rules that integrity does. The three rules of integrity are separating what is right and wrong, taking action on what you have decided, and openly stating that you are acting on what you decided on. Carol Gilligan and Joan Didion both have their views on morality. They both give different examples of morality and how it is used in everyday life. One thing we have to attempt to figure out is how we can integrate Stephen Carter's views and Martin Luther King's views on morality into this discussion. Through Gilligan's research she concludes that in morality should be a way of resolving conflict without hurting someone. She believes that to be moral you must help others and meet their needs without sacrificing yourself. To make a moral decision you
I couldn't agree more with Didion when she states that we have no way of knowing what is right and what is wrong or what is good and what is evil. Good and evil are only what we make them to be. I believe that if she was in that situation and it was her only way of survival, she would have also eaten the dead bodies. She then states that the Donner-Reed Party, who survived by eating the bodies of their fellow friends that passed away, were immoral for doing what they did. It states that you must take action on what you have decided and open state it even at a personal cost. The coyotes would be out there within minutes to eat the body if it was left. When you have an egocentric point of view, you tend to believe that your views are superior and you look at everyone else's views in that manner. No matter what decision you make you will have a critic that will think that your decision was not moral and you should have made another decision. This is tough to deal with especially when you want to make a moral decision because wherever you go there will always be critics and you have to deal with them regardless. There is no way of ever finding out. There are many judgments when it comes to making moral decisions. This is very similar to Carter's second rule of integrity. Everything that happens now is a direct result of the decisions that we have all made in the past. Didion states in one story about a boy who died in a car accident.
