The Cold War was a war that was fought without every directly fighting each other. It began when the two most powerful countries in the world, the United States of America and the Soviet Union slowly became enemies. Both superpowers believed that spreading their economic and political systems to other areas would increase their power. These two countries were extremely close to war in many different situations. The Cold War arose as an effect of different incidents. One of the most important issues that contributed to the cause of the Cold War was the United States policy of containment. This containment policy was to stop the spread of communism and limit communism to areas already under the control of Soviet control. Two major aid packages were the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan which both took place in 1947.
