geography and spatial org
In this first chapter we will introduce ourselves to geography and spatial organisation. The purpose of doing this is to demonstrate that geography is a spatial science. We shall also look at the major themes or traditions of geography and how they relate to spatial distribution, spatial structure and spatial processes.Upon completion of this lecture, you should be able to;"h Define geography and spatial organisation;"h List and explain the major concepts of spatial organisation;"h Explain geography as a spatial science.Geography is part of your everyday and part of your understanding of the world in which you live. Every time you ask where something is, why something is located where it is, how an event or phenomenon is influenced by where it is, or what is the best location for something, you ask a geographical question. From the above description, we can therefore say that geography looks at the way things are in space over time. The study of geography began long ago and it is important to note that man as an observing and reflecting animal has always been in some natural sense a geographer who views whatever surrounds him in
In the subsequent lecture we shall demonstrate spatial order and use location theories to explain the process and evolution of such organisations. Geography differentiates itself from other sciences because of the question of location, spatial structures and spatial process. For a long time geography was looked at as the study of foreign places and learning facts about regions. The Greek root of the word geography (geo; which means "earth" and graphien which means "to write") suggests this emphasis. Spatial patterns: This is the study of arrangement of geographical phenomena on the earth's surface. This human landscape can be understood only as the product relationship between society and its environment. 1 The Earth-science traditionThis is perhaps the oldest tradition of geography and it is found in physical geography. - Discuss with your colleagues the spatial geography seeks oriented questions.
