Are CDs Replacing Vinyl?

             Anyone who has looked into becoming a DJ most likely has come across a decision that must be made: CDs or Vinyl. Anyone who has ever been to a party or club has also probably seen the DJ using one of these two. Many DJs will get into heated conversations over which is better. At the same the guests at the club or party usually have no clue and don't care for that matter what the DJ is using, as long as it sounds good.
             Vinyl has been around for a long time. It was what the original DJs used. For this reason many DJs stand firm on using vinyl. Actually using vinyl to mix is much different from using CDs as well. There is a different feel to it, you actually touch the record, it makes the experience that much more real. The feeling of using vinyl is like a Double Double from In-N-Out: It cannot be explained unless you have tried it. As far as sound quality goes, there is not much of an advantage of CDs. Some say it has a warmer sound, others will argue that it's all the same.
             CDs are relatively new to the DJ scene, this is because the technology was not advanced enough to accomplish the job. Technology has advanced a lot over the past few years, allowing virtually infinite possibilities. This gives CDs a big advantage. One of the major hurdles that had to be overcome was scratching. The terms "scratching" and "DJ" go together. Up until mid 2001 there was no scratching technology for CDs that sounded decent. Since then many scratch CD players have come into the market. Many DJ's cannot even tell the difference between vinyl scratching and scratching from a quality CD player.
             Music availability is also a big factor that must be played in when comparing the two. Most everything popular will be released on vinyl. Many underground tracks will only be released on vinyl because the majority of the underground DJs use Vinyl. On the other hand, CDs have a big slice of the market. Anything you can't buy...
