I'm Telling the Truth

For many years, the tobacco industry has been accused, especially by non-smokers, of posting misleading advertisements across various types of media in order to attract or retain costumers. However, as a smoker, I feel that this bias is unfair to tobacco companies, so I decided to analyze a tobacco ad for myself. As I was browsing the internet, I came across an Adland webpage and an advertisement for Camel Midnight Madness cigarettes. The ad had a huge picture of a man at a New Year's party with a Camel Midnight Madness cigarette in his mouth and the slogan: "Ring in the New Year with the latest Camel exotic blend." Delighted to see that this advertisement somewhat related to my own life, I concluded that the advertisement is effective because it's illustrations depict real life situations, it uses honest slogans, and it only presents one false piece of information, the Surgeon General's Warning. Many biased non-smokers accuse tobacco companies of using false images in their ads because they believe tobacco companies want to associate a good time with cigarettes. With no bias, I disagree with this allegation. In Camel's advertisemen

Why would they lie? If you're dead, you can't smoke. It would be like having your cake, and eating it too. t, there is an illustration of a handsome man, just like me, partying hard at a New Year's party with a cigarette in his smiling mouth. However, I am not sure how cigarettes might shorten your life. If I am surrounded by a crowd of people, they usually scurry to the opposite side of the room when they first realize I light up my cigarette (given I could smoke indoors in the first place). Besides, if someone dies from smoking Camel cigarettes, Camel would loose a customer and some profit at the same time. It is the Surgeon General's Warning, which states, "Quitting smoking now greatly reduces serious risks to your health. "Mind and Muscle: Q&A: Weight-Loss Expert Jim Karas.
