             For most of its existence and even since its origin, America has been a self beneficially violent country. It has been founded through violence and obtained most of its possessions through violent acts. Subsequently, America is proud of its superpower status and can violently instill fear onto its "neighbors". Violent behavior is ingrained in the psyche of the whole nation which furthermore trickles down into individualism. Michael Moore, in his movie "Bowling for Columbine" tries to decipher why after centuries from its violent genesis, Americans are still innately violent.
             In one of the movie's opening scenes, Michigan Militants are training for their doomsday scenario while nurturing their young in a bunker tent near by. There, a mother expresses her controversial views in her army uniform, just inches away from her child. "This is an American tradition it's an American responsibility to be armed. Who is going to defend your kids, the cops the federal government? NO!" Obviously affected by her mother's beliefs, this adolescent human being grows up with views that are hard to runaway from and another violent adult is born. Views similar to these, are getting passed down from generation to generation brainwashing young minds in to loosing faith in their government and themselves.
             A definite sense of hopelessness can be seen through the majority of this film as well. "This town can really get you down" said by one of the younger characters in this documentary explaining that this could have been the reason for the Columbine mass murder. Moral decay is one of the major parts in a breakdown of a human mind. Low self esteem is another. It was made clear by him in the film that he wanted to be number one on the bomb threat list or number one in something in his life.
