When the american dream dies
American dream...What is it? Hope for a better life? I have heard of this expression so many times, but actually didn't know the true meaning of it until I watched the movie "The Great Gatsby". This movie discusses so many controversial and interesting issues. The main themes of "The Great Gatsby" are the decay of the American dream and the drive for money and materialism. I think that the most salient message of this movie is the fall and corruption of the American dream. As you probably know, the American dream is an idea about hard work and enterprise, it is about motivation and hope that one can achieve his or her goals, and it is about success in this life. Any dream should be reasonable, or its integrity and moral beauty would be lost forever. "The Great Gatsby" also describes the gap between the rich and the poor and the difference between classes. People at that period of time, the 1920s, were reveling in materialism that came after the World War 1. It is not only the materialism that was peculiar to that period of time, but also corruption and the degradation of moral values. In this essay I will try to show you in what ways the American dream was corrupted, and how wealth and power be
When the child speaks to Daisy, Daisy never answers orreplies to her. So he gets into the illegal business of selling the alcohol, or just 'bootlegging'. Pammy does not know her mother very well and is still very shy to go near her. Daisy has grown up with the finest material goods. Daisy always changes the subject as if she doesn't even notice the child is there. It dies because we don't even try to achieve anything greater, and instead of reaching our goals we just want power, money and pleasure. In the beginning of this film Jay Gatsby was kind of a mystery for me. Even though it was prohibited in America, the desire of Gatsby to become rich was stronger than anything else. She is happy when the things are given to her, and the circumstances are going the way she planned them. Ignorance and the idea of amassing wealth just to show off have become prevalent, whereas in the American dream striving to achieve and accomplish personal goals is the main focus. came the only aims for people to live for. These parties symbolize carelessness of people of that time because people would just come, without even any invitations, eat, and drink until the early hours of the morning without even meeting or even knowing the master of the house; and Gatsby would just hide from them. Nearly everything in the house is imported from England.
