Langston Hughes was an african american authorpoet who experienced
racism throughout his lifetime. He reflects the effects that racism can have on a
protagonist through his works A little Virgin and No Place to Make Love. He wrote
poems and short stories describing how good black people are, and to infrom
blacks to be proud of who they are. He was person who cared and made a
difference to improve the lives of millions.
Langston Huges was born in Joplin, Missouri, on Febuary 1, 1902. On the
same day he was born, his father found out that a new law was passed
prohibiting african americans to become lawyers. Langstons father had studied
very hard during his school years to becom a lawyer. He wanted to own his own
firm and have langston work by his side. And the only way he could accomplish
this dream was to move to Mexico. In mexico Langstons father started his own
business and was one step closer to his goal.
Langston attended school and lived with his mother while his father was in
Mexico. He was the only black student in his class, which was hard on him. The
other students wouldn't socialize with him because he was black, so Langston
found comfort and friends in his books. This newly found intrest in books and
literature set Langstons goals for the rest of his life. By starting at such a young
age he developed a unique passion for the arts of literature.
When he was about eight years old, he went to live with his grandmother
because his mother couldn't afford to pay the rent for their house. His grand
mother supported him by telling stories about his grandfather, who was killed
fighting for freedom before Langston was born. Langston live with his
grandmother until she died when he was about thirteen. By then, his mother had
married another man. so Langston wen to live with them in Lincoln, Illinois.
