A Raisin in The Sun

             In the story, A Raisin in the Sun, one of the main characters was Walter Lee. His super objective in the story was to be able to provide a better life for him and his family and also to prove to the world that black men could be successful at life. Walter Lee had many reasons for his super objective and he also took some steps in order to achieve his super objective and he also had certain signs that helped him on his way to achieving this super objective.
             There were certain causes which led Walter Lee to have the super objective he had in the story. The story takes place during a time which black people were being oppressed by a more dominant white society. Also Walter's family was living in a tiny apartment with no bedroom for his son. In a way he was sort of pushed to be able to provide a larger house for his family. Also Walter Lee worked as a chauffeur for a white family. He wanted to be able to own his own liquor store and prove that a black man can succeed in a dominant white society.
             Walter Lee also took certain steps in order to achieve his super objective. One thing that Walter Lee was hoping for was a ten thousand dollar insurance check that has mother was supposed to receive for the death of her husband. He was hoping he could use some of the money from the check to obtain a liquor license. Then some of the money from the check would go to Walter's sister so that she can pay for medical school. Then, finally, what was left of the money would be used to put a down payment on a house for the entire family.
             In the story, there were certain symbols which had a great deal of meaning to the family. The main symbol of the story was the ten thousand dollar check. This was a sign of great stability for the family. The family also considered the check to be a savior for everyone. Another major symbol would be the new house.
