pyramids

Egypt is well known for its pyramids. The pyramids were built for pharaohs and their closest relatives to be buried in. Pharaohs were rulers of Egypt. The tombs, where the pharaohs and their families were buried, were in the complex build of the pyramids. There are three pyramids, one for King Khufu, one for King Khafre, and one for King Menkaura. The pyramid complexes of Giza (location of the pyramids) served as a source of building material for Cairo because they used the top layer of the pyramids which was made of limestone to build parts of Cairo. The first pyramid was built for King Khufu. Khufu's pyramid is the largest in the world. There were over 2,300,000 blocks used to build this pyramid. The base of Khufu's pyramid is the size of 7 city blocks. The length o

Khafra's pyramid is the second largest in the world. It is possible that the builders were rushed or just running out of supplies. The average weight of a block used in these pyramids is 2. The pyramid Nebka lines up with Orion's foot, and the pyramid Zawyat lines up with Orion's left shoulder. Is this a coincidence? I don't think so. With this in mind, I am surprised that the Egyptians had such an understanding for the constellations. The third pyramid built was for King Menkaura. The height of this pyramid is only 203 feet. Menkaura's pyramid is the smallest of the three. Khafra's pyramid looks taller than all the others but it's not. Two pyramids are missing and they are thought to be never built or destroyed. Scientist later realized that with this layout the pyramids line up perfectly with the star constellation Orion's Belt. Although Menkaura was thought to be equal to the other Kings the reason his pyramid was smaller is unknown.
