Inca

             The Inca empire, located in northwestern South America, was one of the greatest native American empires. The empire stretched two thousand six hundred miles from Ecuador to southern Chile. The Inca empire grew to greatness under Pachacuti. Pachacuti is considered one of the greatest rulers of all time. After Pachacuti took control of the empire in AD 1438, he reorganized the government, social structure, economy, and religion. According to Timothy R. Roberts, the Inca empire was "the most authoritarian, absolute rule of any nation at any time in history."
             The Inca civilization is known for its elaborate ceremonies, magnificent temples, and incredible history. The Inca help ceremonies such as the Feast of Inti-Raymi, or Midwinter's Day. This ceremony was held on the shortest day of the year and honored by
             The Sun God. The Inca also held the Sun Ceremony. This was held at the base of Sacsahuaman, a fortress built to protect Cuzco.
             Many temples were built in the Inca empire to appease the gods. The Coricancha, or the Sun Temple, was built to celebrate the Sun God. Sacsahuaman, one of the Inca's biggest buildings, was built to protect one side of Cuzco.

             One temple built by Pachacuti was one of the first schools in North America. This temple was known as Aclla-has. "He built the Aclla-has, the school, and dormitory for the four thousand virgins who became a member of his harem served as priestesses for various temples or were used as sacrificial victims."
