My Career

             A question concerning my future educational plans strikes close to my heart. I have spent countless hours pouring over the different college guide books, speaking to admissions officers who visited my school, and discussing the subject with my family and friends. Am I interested in the traditions of Harvard, the reasonable tuition of Rice, or the 8,800 rolling acres at Palo Alto? The veritable smorgasbord of quality universities across the country makes my mind reel and my mouth water.
             I am greatly looking forward to college and I am hoping for many new experiences. I would like to sit around a table at the student union and debate the defense budget with those on my left and school prayer with those on my right. I would like to wander through a library with 10 million volumes and actually find the book I was looking for. It would be exciting to go into a science lab and use an electron microscope and a mass spectrometer, if thee are actual uses for a mass spectrometer. But most of all, I want to grow and change at college. I hope to meet interesting people and encounter new ideas. I am enthusiastic in regard to learning and I love a healthy discussion. I also am interested in a school with an active drama department, since I have enjoyed participating in various plays throughout my high school career.
             My education should be a balance between science and humanities with a slight preference toward the sciences. A list of my humanities courses would undoubtedly be dominated by history, a subject that fascinates me. I have not yet found a favorite field in science so I would be sure to sample them all. Whatever courses I do take, I would hope not be buried in a class with two hundred other students. I seem to benefit most from a small group setting where discussion and interaction with both the professor and other students are possible.
