triage

Some of the major characters in the novel Triage are Mark, Elena, Joaquin and Talzani. These four characters play a major role in the book as everything relates and surrounds them. We are shown in the novel each of the characters personal lives, their events and their chances. Mark is a war photographer who travels around the world to war and takes photos of soldiers, civilians and the died. While Mark was in the Kurdistan war, him and his friend Colin got injured in a bombing. He then experienced the last words of Colin, before he dies. As make tried to help Colin but failed, he then becomes physically and mentally injured as he blames himself for Colin's death. Make is then taken to Harir cave hospital were he meets doctor Talzani. Mark had to prove to Talzani that he was fit enough to be kept alive and was given a yellow tag, and was taken to the recovery ward. As Mark recovered from Harir cave hospital, he then returns to Elena (his girlfriend) in New York. Mark cannot face what happened and continues his self-delusory behaviors. He lies to Elena about his lacerations and injuries and the where about of his close friend Colin. Mark can't seem to connect with his home environment, physically or psych

Talzani knows and opens up that he sometimes have given the wrong colored tags to some of the injured soldiers, that was capable of being healed. Changes Elena also goes through the experiences level of pain and goes into the states of "numbness" during marks absences. She realizes that she has been too harsh with Joaquin and that she is mature enough to admit to him that she has been self-righteous. Elena can't seem to remember Mark's face while his is away. He worked with fascist criminal war murderers. Changes Throughout the novel Joaquin appears as Mark's doctor. The love between these three characters is the crucial elements in a satisfying closure to the narrative of Mark's horrific journey. He gives tags to his patients, these card determine who gets treated and who dies. She is supportive to Mark, as he work was in many ways alienating and potentially destructive to their relationship. Talzani says this to help Mark from blaming himself for Colin's death. Elena is ashamed of Joaquin and thinks he is a fraud as he treated war criminals and she didn't think it was a good idea for him to treat Mark, as he would see him also as a war criminal as well. She does this by researching the last name and matching it with the other lost last name that are the same. But if we look over this, Talzani is really a helpful and caring person. At the end Mark release himself from Colin by releasing a bouquet of flowers into the water, as Colins body was washed away by the river as Mark was trying to help him.
