Human Conflicts in Drama

             Drama is literature that "makes use of plot and characters, develops themes, arouses emotional responses and may be either literary or commercial in its reality"(). Two great examples of drama are "Othello", written by William Shakespeare, and also "Death of a Salesman", written by Authur Miller. The focus of these dramas is set with character conflicts that are derived by the authors. These are placed specifically to create vivid characters without an author's literal description. The main character conflicts lie within the limits of a person versus God, nature, self, partner, society, authority, or even technology.
             The first drama, "Othello", is an early Shakespearean piece that revolves around major conflicts of person versus person, self, God, authority, and society. Examples of the first type of conflict can be depicted best by the characters Desdemona and Othello. Other characters, like Emilia, Iago, Roderigo, Cassio, also Barbantio, demonstrate this kind of person versus person conflict as well. Desdemona and Othello are newly-wed lovers who develop insecurity. Ultimately, Othello is told that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. He does not take his wife's word over Iago and in a rage murders Desdemona. This action is the climax of the play; it establishes the theme of trust in the conclusion of the play.
             Another type of conflict in "Othello" is person versus authority. The story line is essentially concluded with the fact that Othello has to deal with the consequences of his actions from the authority of the Senators. The murder of Desdemona is not one that he can cover up. He must pay for his murderous temper.
