1984: Worst Book Ever
Out of every book ever written in the world, 1984 has to be the worst book ever written. In George Orwell's book he creates a character, Winston Smith, who is one of the few people in his society who doesn't like the "party", which is a group of people who run the entire country of Oceania. Eventually, Winston's lover tells the "Thought Police", and Winston is taken away. The "party" reforms Winston and he becomes a normal member of society. No one should read 1984 because of the main character, the "party's" ideals, and the plot. The main character in George Orwell's book 1984 is Winston Smith, an employee at the Ministry of Truth. Winston is part of the small percentage of overweight people in Oceania. He is out of shape as shown during the exercise program on the telescreen, basically a television and a video camera combined, that he must follow to stay in shape. The country has rations for everything it is very hard to become overweight and out of shape. Winston has a varicose ulcer on his right ankle. This is an ulcer on his ankle that causes him pain and discomfort. Mr. Orwell was deliberately trying to make people hate his character when he made the character overweight, out of shape, and having an ulcer on his
The party is teaching readers to lie and to segregate which are both very bad things. The party is all part of a horrendous plot involving many characters. O'Brien, a high member of the party, pretends to recruit Winston into the Brotherhood, an underground organization that is against the party. When Winston is reading Goldstein's book, at some points you don't know if he is reading, thinking or talking. Why would an author have his/her main character change so much? At the end of the book it is not clear whether Winston is reformed or whether he has gone back to hating the party. No one should ever read this book for pleasure or be forced to read it because it is just that bad. The party is made up of four branches known as: The Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Plenty, the Ministry of Peace, and the Ministry of Truth. The gin is not real alcohol but merely a combination of chemicals that have the effects of alcohol. In the middle of the book everyone turns against Winston. Winston, the main character, is an ugly, overweight thirty-nine year old throughout most of this book. They have cigarettes with actual tobacco while the lower classes have cigarettes with very little, if any, real tobacco. He makes Winston so dumb that he actually believes everything the party says. The plot is confusing and everyone is against Winston, who has nothing going for him. Lying doesn't change the fact that they are wrong but the party does it anyway.
