picasso and george braque
PICASSO'S and BRAQUE'S FABULOUS BREAKTHROUGH Painting is one of the most interesting skills in our life. Any child of eight can do it, but the important thing in painting is uses of styles. The people who have talents and can use styles very successfully and can create new techniques. With the new techniques, primitive art lost the sense and artists found modern techniques so modern art period started. Looking for the origin of modern art, it is the way of primitive art. Primitive art is far away from culture, traditions, styles but we must consider that modern art comes after developing primitive styles. That is to say; modern art is affected by primitivism.(Goldwater,1986) Art become meaningful because it has the power to express ideas, forms and events; it reflects people's opinion, artists' feelings. The modern art began with Industrial Revolution in the second half of the 19th century and new art styles and movements appeared and disappeared.(Smith,1972) All distinct styles came from different aspects of the changing world and each reflects the modernism in its own way. The most effective period of modern art was 20th century and Cubism which is the paintings with cubic shapes
(Newman, 2001) Cubist offered instead of the unitary, fixed, egocentric focus of Renaissance perspective, multiple and mixed perspective, thus presenting the subject in its many aspects all at once. The paintings of this period look as if they have deconstructed objects and rearranged them on the canvas. Therefore, synthetic cubism was more influential because it moved from periphery to philosophy. In the period between the world wars, the fascist thinking began to rise in Europe. Even they had different or similar ideas of Cubism, both of two were the creater of Cubism at the same time but I can said that Picasso had the more influence on Cubism than Braque. In my opinion, we can't see any effective and powerful artist at this time because today artists don't struggle and have interest to find new styles. After Picasso used the style of analytical cubism that Braque found, he introduced the second phase of cubism,"synthetic cubism". In these forms Picasso found a powerful subjective equivalent for public chaos and aggression, also he expressed his own terror and fears in war time because the feeling that he couldn't explain he showed in his paintings. Separating of a movement was unusual at that time and for the first time Picasso and George Braque created two different styles of Cubism. A few years later Picasso's art started the "rose period" that he uses pink tones in her paintings. The artist fought his personal war against fascism and he reacted with antifascist art works. In contrast to Picasso, the colours of George Braque were earth colour and green tones. Therefore, Picasso revived a special theatrical world even better than ballet and cabaret scenes with using this colour that gave feeling of human. (Harrison & Wood, 1992) Both of them were strongly inspired by tribal art, especially from Africa.
