             The Empire or more commonly known as the West has had a dramatic influence on the world and particularly the Japanese and aboriginal cultures. The western imperialists colonised many countries around the world and played major rolls in technological advancements in other cultures. The West has made major advancements in military, agricultural and trade and considered them selves superior to most other races. The aboriginals did comprehend this superiority of the Europeans and this is demonstrated in their pictures drawn on rocks, trees and bark. On the other hand the Japanese decided that the West was a far superior race and adopted many of their traditions leaving their centuries of cultural heritage behind. Although the Japanese and the aboriginals were exceptionally different in physical appearance, the way they hunted and gathered food and their overall view on the world and how it was created was quite different. Despite these differences they had many similarities.
             The source examined in this essay of Captain Commodore Perry this is because Perry played a significant roll in opening Japans trading industry to the West. He also displayed the power of the western technological advancements in naval military to the Japanese with his gunboats. This painting reveals more about how the Japanese embraced the Western ways by being painted in a western style instead of a traditional Japanese method. Showing how the Japanese were deserting their traditional ways to Westernise.
             This aboriginal rock painting may not seem significant at first glance at but when looked at more toughly it reveals a hidden story. It reveals that the aboriginals unlike the Japanese decided not to embrace the western ways and were determined to stick with their traditions.
