Religion is a system of beliefs and practices based on an experience of ultimate reality. All religions have a central being of worship, a divinity, a perfect power that can be worshiped. But within the religion, there are a lot of things that are needed for it to be considered a religion. First of all, there is the obvious higher power. People are needed to worship the higher power. Guidelines are also needed so to have a structure of faith to base the beliefs of the religion on.
             Religion can be a very good thing for many people. For a lot of people, it is a sense of security, a sense of community and belonging. For many people, they don't really have a place to feel secure and to feel like they belong. One of the greatest wants for all people is to fit in and to belong to something. For many, this is what religion is to them. It's a place of security and belonging. It is protection and hope for them in an otherwise hopeless world.
             As well as being a sense of security for many people religion can be an explanation to unanswerable questions. For example, they use it to explain why many things happen. Why it rains, why it snows, why it thunders. For a lot of people, religion provides them with the ability to answer questions that can never really be explained. It can explain what death is, what illness is, why those things are found in this world. For those who are not very religious, these things may not matter, but to people who are, they may find those answers through their religion. It's simply an answer to unexplainable questions.
             Religion can also be a motivation for people. For many people, they don't have much in the world to live for. They may be poor; they may be alone, they may not have the luxuries that the average person does. So religion can be their motivation and their escape from their everyday lives and problems.
