Narcotics started out as a drug used as a painkiller, sleep inducers, and a number of other medical uses, but as use of the drugs went along abuse soon began and Narcotics started to become a harmful drug. They can be naturally made (Opiates) or man made (Opium based) of Poppy flower. The street names for Narcotics are Junk, Smack, Opium, Horse, Brown Sugar, Black Tar, Dope, and Big H. Hospitals and medical persons use narcotics for many reasons such as, relieving pain from cancer, terminal illness, or severe injury or surgery. he word was originally used to describe a number of substances to reduce pain and the reaction of senses. Needles used to contain diseases such as HIV. Use of the drug whether positive or negative is for one reason to stop feeling pain or putting the body in a relaxed state. Long-term effects include inability to resist disease and infection, inflammation of the veins, bronchial congestion, hepatitis, and skin abscesses or other growths. Euphoria drowsiness, loss of pain sensations, constipation, urinary problems, restlessness, and nausea are all just short-term effects of addiction. Not only are there dangers in the use of the drugs themselves the tool used to take them could also be harmful. Narcotics are used therapeutically to treat pain, suppress cough, alleviate diarrhea, and induce anesthesia. Today the word is used for more then what it was intended for. Addiction to narcotics can lead to serious problems. The basic goal of the use of narcotics is to relieve pain immediately. Now the term is used to describe an "illicit" substance as a narcotic. Delayed recoveries from surgery and decreased immunity to disease are effects of pain not being relieved. The ways that they are taken vary, orally, skin patches, or injected.
