the claim made by Teiresias examines the difference between right and wrong as if these two concepts are merely two sides of a coin. In reality, good and evil, right and wrong, true and false, are not so clearly delineated. Teiresias does not realize that his observation, if applied as a general rule, would create the disastrous construction of external standards for the individual to follow. Indeed, how does one "know" if he or she is wrong? The individual cannot objectively verify or falsify empirical claims when the circumstance demands submission to an external standard. Therefore, he or she must maintain respect for a dignified conception of individuality. What individuals "know" are conceptualized and solidified through teaching and repetition. It took Darwin and other scientists a great deal of pride in their research to ignore society's constructs of truth. remember, this is the test that i need a 110% on. Even outside the realm of fiction, we can see that human conceptions of truth are constantly changing. If his observation were to be followed, then society degrades into a system bound by the homogenous imposition of subjective ethics. Nietzsche bases his critique of morality on the constant change that molds normative standards. but it's still relatively not enough. vents, this criterion has been deconstructed. It took men of great pride in individual thinking to assert and substantiate their logic. Big Brother and the rest of the state revealed that they could very well defy physical evidence or any conception of logic because they control the mind. In order to remain free and to maintain a dignified awareness, the individual should assess the situation from as many different viewpoints as possible. Rather, pride is the respect for dignity of one's own discernment of truth and morality, which ought to be a fundamental principle of a human being because it allows for criticism and advancement. Seven hundred years ago, most of Europe believed that the earth was flat. Unless it is a crime to maintain a liberated human rationality, pride cannot be a crime. The "good" that once described hedonism in the nobility, was altered by Christian doctrines to describe the meek and the faithful, and again altered to connote altruism and selflessness.
