Compare and Contrast Christian
Christianity and Judaism share the same origins, in fact Christianity actually came about from Judaism. The first converts to Christinity were Jews; therefore, Christianity was seen as a sect of Judaism. The converts who were encouraged by the Apostle Paul eventually acknowledeged that their faith was distinct from Judaism. Eventhough the two religions share some of the same beliefs, there are vital distinctions between the two. Judaism is called the religion of the Jews and was teh first faith to believe in one God. Christianity soon followed that belief. Both religions are based on monotheism, the idea that there is only one God. This is where the similarities end.
For Christians, the only form of salvation is through Jesus. The Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. God can not be made up of three parts, even is those three parts are mysteriously united. Christians also believe that Jesus died on the cross to absorb the sin's of man. Their belief is that God offers the most evil man an opportunity to repent, or teshuva. The belief is that man needs an act of grace provided by the death of Jesus as atonement for all of humanity's sins. There are more differences between Christianity and Judaism, but Christianity can not be defined without Jesus and it can not be fully appreciated without Judaism, the religion of the Jews, God's chosen people. Sins are not by Jesus' atonement, but by just seeking forgiveness. One point is crucial, no born Jewish person or convert can believe that Jesus was the literal Son of God. Origianl sin is based on teh idea that people are born into sin. Judaism's view is that the Christian's view of trinitarianism is a weakening of God's oneness. ristians believe that He was the Son of God and a part of the Trinity. After this repentance one can atone for one's sin against God by positive actions. Since Judaism does not believe that Jesus is the Son of God, they do not believe that Jesus came to earth to save man from his sins. On the other hand, Judaism believes that Jesus did not die to absorb man's sins.
