Quebec

Quebec is the largest and oldest province in Canada. Having been found in 1763. The French colonized there in the early 1600's and most of the population today is still French in both language and origin. Quebec's total area is 594,705 square miles. That equals to 15.4% of Canada's total land mass. Quebec is split off into three physiographic regions, the Laurentian Plateau in the north; the Appalachian Highlands in the southeast; and the St.Lawrence Lowlands in the south. On the borders of Quebec is the United States, Ontario, Newfoundland, and New Brunswick. The Laurentian Plateau covers nine tenths of the province. It is a huge plateau slightly inclined towards James and Hudson Bays. Mont D'Iberville is the highest peak in both Quebec and Labrador, at 5,420 feet. Peaks northwest of Montreal, in Mont Tremblent Park reach 3,900 feet. The plateau has great amounts of minerals, forests, and water resources. The Appalachian Highlands consist of a series of ridges parallel to the south shore of the St.Lawrence River. Quebec also has big hydro-electrical power plants. It holds many festivals, but the one that sticks out the most is Winter Carnival. One of these camps is called The Lake Ternay Lodge, which is located on the Quebec/Labrador border 100 miles away from Labrador city. The Georges River Herd consists of 750,000 caribou that migrate into Labrador for the winter. On the Manicougan River, there are five or six different hydro-electric dams, with manic five being the biggest self-held dam in the world. Montreal takes in 22 million tons annually, with the supplies including petroleum, cereal grains, and general cargo. With the same outfitter, High Arctic Adventures, there is another camp called The Diana Lake Lodge. This is a much more exclusive camp than the Lake Ternay Lodge, it is also accessible by car. In the summertime, many people enjoy the view from Quebec's famous boardwalk. Quebec city takes in 15 million tons of supplies including asbestos, grain, and aluminum.
