This year, there will be a lot of cicadas coming out of the ground from their larva stages. First, they dig to the surface of the earth; then, they shed their husky brown shells and climb trees or other high surfaces to dry their wings in the sun. Finally, they are able to fly and mate with other cicadas. Not that I've ever tasted a cicada, or ever will, but I saw someone on the television eat a cicada, live, and describe it as chicken. This groups of cicadas is called the "batch 17" cicadas because they come out from under the ground every 17 years to mate. They make a strange whisper sound to attract female cicadas, which can often be heard during the night in trees.
