Italy during WWII
During World War II, Italy became involved and would face fighting against a variety of people at first were allies with Germany, but later became part of the Allied Power, with Britain, the United States, Canada, etc. During this time, in Italy, the leader(Il Duce) was Benito Mussolini, which did not help because they later found that his intentions were not what they had thought previously. Later he was taken out of officeabd murdered by the mob.Italy never truly became part of the war until the beaches of Sicily was invaded, in July of 1943.The Germans were in Italy which they would use to find against the Allies. After Allied victory in North Africa, the Allies decided to storm the beaches of Sicily. They attacked what they considered to be Italy's "underbelly," as a
None of the Italians were enthusiastic toward war and wanted to avoid it completely, but they fought right along sides the Germans to try to keep the Allies away from the mainland. This is their greatest loss in only one battle. A new outbreak of Gonorrhea had broken out, had prevented many soldiers from fighting, and many deaths. The Germans were unable to hold back the Allied powers, but were willing to give up most of Italy. They were trapped and have nowhere to go, so on May 2, 1945 the Germans surrendered. From January of 1944 until March of 1945, much fighting went on all over Italy. Both Allies and Germans race across Po Valley to escape fighting, but they encountered the Po River and the only way the Germans could get across was to swim, or take small boats. Once again, Italy was back to its normal state, without all the German influence, although it did take Italy a lot of time to repair all the cities and other things that had been destroyed by careless fighting. They had to deal with rain, snow, disease, famine, and among all things, death. They also flamethrowers equipped tanks. The Germans and the Allies fought for nine days in this battle. On September 9th, 1943, the Allies attacked Italy's mainland, as a way to try to confuse the Germans. People would starve and die of malnourishment.
