The Importance of Dependable Drug Testing

             When it comes to drug testing many of us think of it a,s a test that people have to take when they get in trouble with the law, have been caught drinking illegally or simply drinking and d,riving. Drudrink and driveeyond that. It can affect many of us indirectly. Drug testing, as a requirement when it comes to applying for a job, is a waste of money because the method isn't very effective and can be easily foiled, plus it's an unfair judgment about people's performance at work. This means you can be tested false negative or false positive and either get the job you are applying for, or get rejected, all because of the test results, that many times could be wrong. Though drug testing is an incorrect system, it can prevent companies from legal and health problems.
             According to an article written by Martha Mcneil Hamilton that was posted in the Washington Post on February 18, 2003, critics state that the system of drug testing is an unnecessary invasion of people's privacy. Some of Graham A. Boyd's points, a director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Drug Policy Litigation Project, support my position. He agrees that many tests contribute very little to making the workplace safer or to make their products better. In 1986 there was a federal order establishing a goal of creating a workplace with a drug-free environment. In 1990, the federal government spent 11.7 million dollars to test 29,000 employees, and only 153 tested positive. This all added up to 77,000 thousand dollars to detect each drug user. A lot of money it's being spent on what some people call safety with technology. According to Barry Sample, this is actually putting those who would defeat the screening against those who conduct it, a director of science and technology at Quest Diagnostics Inc.'s Corporate Health and Wellness division.
