Homeless veiw
Right now my view of homeless people is those who don't have the mental capacity to take care of themselves and therefore they end up living off of other peoples change on the streets. I often view them without a family and no real initiative to be successful or seek comfort in their lives. It seems that many are alcoholics and drug abusers and are desperate to get those things no matter what the cost. They appear very sad and lost, like all they really need is someone to tell them they are important and can make a difference in the world. I think that they have a very carefree nature and don't take other people's opinions into consideration at all. They could care less what others think, and for that they are willing to lay and sleep in places we wouldn't imagine even walking on. A lot of them seem to be struggling through life and are taking all the wrong choices of changing their lives whether its because of mental issues or just laziness. As much as I want to believe they are there trying to get money to pay for a resume, I often believe they're finding all the money they can to buy things that will only make their problems
I think that it should be our choice to show these people we care about them so that they may realize they have a better place in society. I think that maybe if I wrote a note and put it in with the change saying, "I believe you can make a new start" it just might have an effect on that person. It isn't fair for us to walk around and judge these people when we don't have the whole story or aren't familiar with what they have gone through in their lives. They eventually believe they are worthless and unproductive because that is what they are told; they aren't given that encouragement or love that people need to experience in order to gain initiative and confidence to do good. The next time I walk by a homeless person I don't think I'll just slowly drop some change into his hat. If being called worthless and being looked down upon is what these people experience daily, I can understand why they don't want to get jobs or start over. As upper class citizens we often don't look at the homeless as real people. We become ignorant of their lives because we think they choose to live that way and that there aren't any other factors involved. It was also very interesting that people became very uncomfortable when seeing these people, as if they didn't want to accept that fact that they do exist and that the world isn't perfect. We need to understand they have problems, but then develop solutions to fix them so that they can have better lives and new hope. I found it to be interesting that these people were able to develop good ideas and thoughts on society. After reading this article I have definitely developed a new sympathy for those living on the streets. Overall I believe that I shouldn't judge all of these people as lazy alcoholics who choose to be on the street. If we simply shrug them off and act as if they are nothing, they will be nothing.
