Globalism

Globalisation, what is it? It is the effect of hi-tech communications, lower transport costs and unrestricted trade and financial flows turning the whole world into a single market, producing a more integrated global economic system. Organisations are experiencing globalisation because other large scale organisations are expanding. By expanding to other countries, they are introduced as new competitors and is an effect of globalisation.

There are many impacts experienced by Australian businesses in result of globalisation. The main impact is that because of new competitors, many Australian businesses are losing profit and are struggling to keep up with new technology.

Large scale organisations always have a continual pressure to change. There are many causes as to why the need for change is necessary. These causes can be split into two categories, external pressures and internal pressures. There are seven major external influences to change. One major pressure is the changing nature of markets, where man

Therefore banks those days had a monopoly of the times they were open, charges, etc.

There are four roles for senior managers in implementing the change. They must also understand competitors and be alert to takeovers and mergers. The last major internal pressure would be the new corporate cultures, which is influenced by new technology.

Westpac is an example of a business whose management have had to respond to globalisation. Social influences refer to changes in tastes, fashions and culture. Another external influence involves social influences. Legal influences are also an major external pressure. They also need to be more efficient so that the benefits are greater than the costs. These changes are in result of the government implementing legislation to deregulate the economy in order to make Australian organisations more competitive and efficient. A slow down in population growth will have a major implication for Australian organisations. The second role is to organise, that is, stay up to date with technology, get involved in Research and Development, multi skill employees, downsize, benchmark against competitors, attract more shareholders and acquire new business through merger or takeover. Advances in technology have had a major impact on organizational structure. The third internal pressure would be the organizational alliances which are where organisations form an alliance to give them a competitive advantage and in result is the change in organizational operating procedures.
