Organizational Case
Until this course, I thought the only people a business had to report to were its shareholders. I have since learned that I am a stakeholder and that my views count when businesses make decisions that could affect my community. Before a business opens its doors, it must make sure that the products or services that it will offer are safe for consumers and the environment. In the case of Malden Mills, I learned that stakeholders could make or break a company when that company needs support the most. I own a 2000 Ford Focus car. I researched before buying by reading consumer opinions and checking out the safety record it held in Europe. I bought it because it was different and had just been introduced in the United States. I did not take into account that this particular model would have any bugs in it. I had the car for two months when the recall notices started rolling in. One day I received a package from Ford, inside the package there was a stainless steel coffee cup and a letter of apology for my inconvenience. The letter also stated that I would receive another gift shortly. I received a picture frame, a really nice Timex watch, and a tube of touch-up paint. I felt Ford's customer service was wel
In reading about consumer advocacy groups, I realized that consumers were not the only ones trying to protect themselves, government also is. One of my coworkers is back, and we all have a newfound appreciation for the work she contributed. This project makes Marines, who are usually stereotyped as rough and tough, look like pussycats. Managing IssuesOn my job recently we had to do some crisis management. In this course, I have learned my place in business as a consumer, a stakeholder and an employee. Take my car (please!), if there weren't government regulations and standards, Ford never would have had to notify me of the potentially fatal problems it was plagued with. There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into this highly visible project the community does not see. We were questioned constantly and our governing authority decided to make a surprise inspection. Deceptive advertising laws help me with my diet and help me determine which foods my diabetic mother should not consume. I try to do my homework before I make a major purchase and I try to do business with companies that I trust. Surprisingly, they understood and were extremely patient with us during this crisis. There was no public issue because Ford recognized the faults of the car and took action right away. We all thought the commanding officer was nuts for not pressing charges.
