Band of Brothers
In the book of Genisis Jacob and Joseph are father and son whom both have a conflict with their brother(s). Jacob's conflict is with Esau while Josephs conflict is with all of his brothers excluding one who shared Joseph's birth mother Rachel. The conflicts stem from jealousy in one case and deception in the other. Jacob who is the father of Joseph is partially responsible for the anguish between bothers in both his and Joseph's conflicts. Jacob's deceives his elderly father, a deception in which Jacob filched Isaac's fatherly blessing for his eldest son, Jacob's older brother Esau. 41So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand then I will kill my father are at hand: then I will kill my brother Jacob." 42And the words of Esau of her older son were told to Rebeka. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, "Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you.
Joseph however informed them of who he was and actually forgave and thanked his brothers for what they had done. Joseph's capability to read dreams and his strong belief in the Lord allowed him to make it this far. ' We shall see what will become of his dreams!(Genisis, 33:18-20)The brothers did not quite carry out this plan. The family was ignorant of the fact they were talking to their own kin. During a famine Jacob and his family came before Joseph and asked for much needed assistance. Although he is motivated by his mother Jacob is almost entirely responsible for the Esau's fury. This jealousy was amplified by a dream of Joseph's in which the brothers interpreted as demeaning to them. While Joseph he became royalty and was second only to the king in one of the greatest ancient civilizations in World History. The brother's hatred for Joseph grew when their father Jacob presented Joseph with a robe of long sleeves. Unlike Jacob, Joseph had very little control over his sour relationship with his brothers. Joseph was foolish to tell the dream and he was also foolish to spy and tell tales. In both generations a parent choosing a favorite child caused conflict between brothers. Joseph's forgiveness of his brothers is similar to Esau's forgiveness of his. 43Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran(Gen.
