For example, Kim was stealing corn so his family would have enough to eat every night. She explained what it is like to have no food and what it smells, and looks around her. This book has also shown how a communist state is run, but how it would never work. Although, I have learned that the Khmer Rouge has killed 2 million Cambodians, which was ¼ of the Cambodian population. Overall, I thought that this book was good and has shown me how lucky we are to live in America. Everyone would get the same amount of food to eat and everyone would wear the same thing. ppened and how they would survive day by day. Loung has deeply expressed how hard the transition from being an upper class family to being just like lower class families with having hardly anything at all. This is what makes them not equal with everyone else which makes communism not work. After I read the book, my views really haven't changed.
