One in five Americans has a Sexually Transmitted Disease. This is a statistic that is frightening to everyone. One in four Americans will acquire some type of STD in their lifetime, whether there be a cure or no cure. Ever since former NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson announced to the world that he had to retire from basketball because of the H.I.V. virus, America has really paid closer attention the disease. It's true that over the past few years STD's have decreased in the United States, but the decline is not good enough. The statistics are still too frightening to believe. Teenagers and young adults, like myself, need to realize the importance in practicing safe sex. To some people all their looking for is a night full of pleasure, but usually there getting a lifetime of pain. STD's were never a big deal in high school, but when I think about the first day my parents dropped me off in Zura Residence Hall at San Diego State University; I knew my life would forever be different. This story really put my life in perspective. Alcohol makes you do ignorant things, which can usually have serious repercussions. As friends, we need to either hand our friends condoms when we know what there about to do. His former partner informed David that she was given Genital Warts by him. The story doesn't stop there, since the two of them were unaware that they both had an STD, none of them did anything about it. If she would have been tested sooner, rather then later, Cervical Cancer wouldn't of occurred. A lot of my friends do feel that liquor plays a major role when risky sexual behavior is involved. The Government has and idea about how to reduce the numbers of teenagers and young adults from leading risky lifestyles. The Government thinks that maybe if the price of liquor was raised, then teenagers and young adults might think twice before buying liquor. But most of them still believe that raising the price of alcohol is not going to stop people from engaging in unsafe sex. Since 25% of sexually transmitted disease cases are coming from the thirteen to eighteen age group and 66% of STD cases are coming from those who are twenty-five years and younger, the Government has proposed an idea to raise taxes on liquor. David explained that Genital Warts are curable, but that he had done something far worse. appalled at these girls because they were wearing revealing clothes, smoking cigarettes, sporting tattoos, and many piercing. The motivation given that enabled me to write this paper came just a short while ago, when a friend of mine, David, called me on the phone explaining to me that he had contracted Genital Warts. I would have to say that I feel the same way.
