Capitalism relies heavily on the theory that there is a need for a dominant economic position within society and that exploiting the Proletariat by paying them wages that amount to less than the good being produced, and keeping all profits for themselves. Marx, however, claimed that the "Proletariat were unaware of their exploitation due to ideological control" (class handout, Structural Marxism). Marxists believe that when the Proletariat realise their exploitation a revolution can begin to defeat capitalism and embark on the formation of an ideal, equal society.
