inherit the wind
In the play " Inherit the Wind" by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, Henry Drumon, Bert Cates and Matthew Harrison Brady are fighting for their personal beliefs. First, Henry Drumon, a puissant and sagacious lawyer, who catapults the court case into the trail of the century. Bert Cates, your typical school teacher, whose " Darwism" deviation the minds of the towns people. Finally, The Prosecuting attorney, Matthew Harrison Brady, whose interpretation of the bible lead to why the biblical theory is dextral. " I was a school teacher. I feel I am ... I have been convicted of violating an unjust law. I will continue in the future, as I have in the past, to oppose this law in any way I can." This powerful statement comes from Bert Cates, who is on trail for teaching "Darwism", which is the theory of Darwin evolution. Darwin's theory states that ushumans evolved over time from bacteria, to Monkeys and eventually humans. Cates be
lieves that, the constitution gives him every right to teach and express his beliefs. " This trail has changed textbooks all over the world; with the way it supported each multilaterally of the case. Drumon does this by comparing the three-evolunary theories, which are the big ban theory, the biblical theory and the agonistic theory. Beyond the different theories of evolution, this truly was the " Monkey trail of the century. It is said in the biblical theory that god created the world in 6th days and rested on the 7th and created man and woman. The big ban theory declares that there were once two universes and over million of years the universe finally collided and created one big universe while, agonistic believe that their isn't a God, but a much higher power. During this whole trail, the quote above, was the only way Cates could express how he felt about the whole situation "Bert, whenever you see something bright, shining, perfect-seeming-all gold, with purple spots-look behind the paint! And if it's a lie-show it up for what it really is!" Drumon quote is said to be the climax of the story. Drumon is ascertain to do whatever it takes to convince the jury that you can't judge a book by it cover; you must look beyond that point and seek the truth, and let the truth be known and shown. Not just the right to teach evolution in school, but also the right to overcome it. " Matthew Harrison Brady, a very well known attorney, is on trail for the town of Hillsboro. During this trail Brandy is interrogated, on why the bible speaks of this but there is no verification of it in early records. For example: in Genesis 4: 16 " and Cain went out form the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the East of Eden. "I hold that the very law we are here to enforce excludes such testimony! The people of this state have made it very clear that they do not want this zoo-ological hogwash slobbered around the schoolrooms! And I refuse to allow the agnostic scientists to employ this courtroom as a sounding board, as a platform from which they can shout their heresies into the headline. In conclusion, " Inherit the wind " tested the ability of the way Cates and Brandy way of think and express their feelings about situation.
