determinism
"A man can surely do what he wills to do, but cannot determine what he wills." (Arthur Schopenhauer)Determinism means that everything in nature is environmentally and biologically controlled. This is only a theory, but one that many people are trying to prove correct. Determinism is another way of saying that everyone's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are caused by their surroundings. A determinant is something that has a role in causing, or determining an outcome. Determinants can range anywhere from the simplest need like hunger, to the greatest of wants like pursuit of happiness. Free will means being able to act at one's own discretion. The determinism theory says that complete free will does not exist, and that acting voluntarily is the result of conscious and unconscious thoughts or beliefs or even memories. Controlling others is a primary means of coping with a naturally indifferent or hostile environment. It is admired when it takes the form of ingenuity or leadership or open persuasion, and frowned upon when its purpose is seen as The most basic of determinants is one's parents, or gua
Can this answer the question of whether or not free will exists? Probably not, but the next time I make a decision about anything I will wonder if it's really my choice, and if not, what caused "my" decision? . Good behavior would go unrecognized. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. The opposite of rebellion occurs in the poem "The Unknown Citizen" by W. The hospitals would give researchers time to figure out the reason for certain "illnesses". Each person would be thought of not as equal; but instead, as the same. Bad behavior would simply be seen as a symptom of illness. If our society was to adopt determinism, we must recognize that people do not have control over their behaviors. At the end of the story, after finding out that he will have to work for years to pay for the mule, he runs away, because he figures that's the only way he will get to be a man. Some control focuses on the fact that the person controlling does not realize that he or she is actually controlling anyone or anything. We rely upon the subtle coercions we have mastered as a result of the billions of little lifelong experiments we play out just below the surface of awareness. We shape the immediate emotional environment to our own unconscious ends. Respect would be given, not earned.
