             Stress, an emotional, intellectual, or physical reaction to change or demands, happens naturally in everyone's life. Stress comes to each individual differently; "the same situation is not evocative or stressful for all people, and all people do not experience the same negative thoughts and feelings when stressed" (Whitman). Gender, age, and context have a major influence on how one experiences stress. "Men... are more likely to negatively appraise the campus climate, and social connectedness was more negatively related to perceived stress for men than for women" (Social Connectedness 355:80). The way a person handles stress will determine whether stress helps or harms a person. More over, the degree of stress a person encounters depends on how important the issue is to him or her. Especially for college students, they experience stressful situations at different level of courses.
             Moving from high school to college, students "... face a number of adjustment problems, the result of stressful experiences they are subjected to by conditions, events, or situations in their new environment (Counseling Psychology Quarterly 2:15). These new comers face numerous changes including independence, more responsibilities, autonomy from their parents, and academic demand. Living on one's self, college students, most of the time, feel homesick because they have to do everything on their own; parents will not be there to do and plan every little thing for them. When they come home from classes, there will not be food ready on the table for them; instead, they have to cook by themselves and clean up too. Not only that, college students have to learn to take responsibilities for their actions. More important of all, students have to pay their own expenses such as utility bills, food, clothes, and tuition fees.
