Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking and Decision MakingCritical thinking and Decision Making go hand in hand. People who are good Critical thinkers tend to make good decisions. This is because there are certain logical rules and experiences that everyone can apply to decisions in their lives. These rules and experiences are the foundation of critical thinking, and we will discuss these foundations in this paper. What is Critical thinking? On the Internet, Barbra Fowler from the Longview Community College in Lee's Summit, Missouri assembled a collection of various definitions of Critical Thinking from various sources. In her web page Barbra Fowler quoted Stephen P. Norris as stating that "Critical thinking is deciding rationally what to or what not to believe". This implies that we use critical thinking in our belief systems, which to me is not true. There is no ration reason to believe in a God, yet 90% of the world does in one way or another. She then quotes Simon and Kapplan as stating that "Critical Thinking is the formation of logical inferences". This is a little close to my opinion of critical thinking, yet I feel there has to be more critical thinking then this. The E-Text Readings in Critical Thinking states that an inference
Awareness of a set of interrelated critical questions2. There are logical places for everything, and at the most basic level code reusability is the objective. Desire to actively use the critical questions. Then we have to instinctively use critical thinking to make decisions. What is the benefit of Critical Thinking? Well, a person that uses critical thinking is actually away of his or her surroundings. Not only will this enrich your experiences, but it may also enrich someone else's world too. These choices are what lead us from one experience to another, and it is the quality of these choices that can fulfill and enrich or burden and annoy our lives. I have to know the client's objective while respecting their desire to make the assigned budget, yet I also need to find a way to make the code flow. Now that we know a little about Critical Thinking we can move on to Decision Making. For example, by the E-Books definition decisions you make in the heat of passion are done using decision making, and this is a broad assumption without the adding of personal experiences with the definition, but for the sake of argument we will assume that the book did not mean it this way, so this shows how some things can be interpreted differently in a broad manner (Critical Thinking) while others are straight forward (Decision Making). The E-Book Readings in Critical Thinking has a three part definition of Critical Thinking:1.
