Ronald reagon's speech

             This speech addresses the people of the United States of America. President Ronald Reagan is stating that Jan 28, 1986 is a day for mourning and remembering the seven astronauts lost in this deadly explosion. He had planned to report to the nation, but the events that have taken place earlier have led him to change his plans. He comforts the nation and reminds them of how the challenger crew was pulling them into the future and making some room for the great things to come. This is shown when he says "The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave."
             In this speech the technique of repetition is used. Repetition is a repeated use of any element of language-a sound, a word, a phrase, a clause, a sentence, a grammatical pattern, or a rhythmical pattern. President Ronald Reagan shows this technique when he uses the word tragedy. For example he says "Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger", "For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do the full impact of this tragedy", "We've never had a tragedy like this." The word tragedy is a very strong word and must be used in the appropriate manner. It is used correctly in this speech and it lets the nation know that something horrible has happened and it will never be forgotten.
             Another technique used in this speech is parallelism. Parallelism is the repetition of words or phrases that have similar repeated uses of phrases. This is shown when he says "We don't hide our space program", "We don't keep secrets and cover things up", and "We do it all up front and in public." He keeps stating the word we, to let everyone know that we are a nation that works together and only tells the truth. He feels as though the space program is doing a magnificent job and should not be brought down and dismissed because of this awful...
