Affirmative Action

Is affirmative action still necessary in America today? Basically the answer is yes, affirmative action is a fundamental need in American society. The aim of this essay is to show the significant importance affirmative action has on business by going beneath the surface of the affirmative action issue and analyzing its fundamental elements in order to recognize the lasting impression it has and will continue to have on American business. As a novice student, I am learning about affirmative action as I research, write, and display my own view of the debatable issue. Not having a lot of knowledge of the topic at hand has weakened the authority I hold over the issue. Although I am not well rounded on the debate I have indirectly gained authority on the issue through credible sources. Having gained access to the views of people who are credible on the topic of affirmative action has given this essay and myself the authority to display my perspective of the issue. For example, Heman Belz, a professor of American constitutional history at the University of Maryland, as written extensively about the history of civil rights. Paul L. By examining further into the affirmative action issue, I have witnessed the lasting impression it has and will continue to have on American business. Affirmative action is the answer for neutralizing the negative discrimination that as held back minorities in various aspects of society, including business. Affirmative action provides multiply benefits for the business atmosphere. The outcome of the fight over equal opportunity in business vs. Affirmative action should be recognized as a process that renders equality for American business. As the civil rights movement took on various discriminatory problems, bias in employment practices was becoming a major issue. By restraining the problem before it occurs, affirmative action programs will not allow discrimination to surface in employment practices. Over the years, the evils of the past have loomed a dark cloud over the relationship between minorities and business. Also, affirmative action programs have proven that they are efficient instruments for correcting the injustices that have happened in the pass and are still effecting the lives of minorities today, constantly working on the endless task of eliminating the bias that has permeated business, and providing multiple benefits for the corporate working environment. People like George Bush and Ronald Regan presume that discrimination and prejudice has ling been extinct from many aspects of society in America, including business practices leading to their belief that there is no need for affirmative action programs. discrimatory employment practices led to the Civil rights Act of 1964 and the establishment of affirmative action. Clayton declare "there are bases on which to add points to members of some groups and not to others. For this and other5 reasons we have still not arrived at the day win we can comfortable assume that even without the continuing pressure of affirmative action programs, African Americans and members of other previously excluded groups will be viewed" (247-248).
