Pop Culture'sand Society

The music industry is an industry that is making billions of dollars a year. This is largely due to the impact of pop culture on music. Nowadays there are many different types of media that exemplify pop culture. Pop culture is marketed directly to American youth through the medium of large network television channels. These channels in turn tell millions of teenagers how to look, what to listen to and how to act hip.

With the uprising of MTV,VH1, and BET, viewers have decided that the only way to be trendy and cool is to be in style. These stations have broken away from just playing music videos to doing just about everything else. The reality genre is huge and has almost taken over MTV, showing celebrity’s houses, living in a house with seven strangers, and watching a newly wedded celebrity couple’s first months of marriage. If it wasn’t for music though, we would not have any of these channels. Music and dance play such an integral role in pop culture, and fans tend to idolize their favorite stars. com for information regarding my topic, the only thing that I could find were interviews with artists, and those really served me no purpose. was actually quite interesting, he explained where pop culture derived from and related advertising and the media to pop culture. I thought about doing a stratified sample, but I realized that would exclude other groups. Most females seem to enjoy following trends, or starting their own, and willingly copy celebrities whose style they like. About 50% of the males stated that rock was their favorite type of music, 25% said rap, and the other 25% went to either pop, country, classical, or other. le, when Jessica Simpson wore her Ugg boots on her new show, Newlyweds, they became an instant trend, becoming impossible to find and making my girlfriend desperate for a pair. Females on the other hand were a bit different, about 50% said pop, 25% said rap, and the other 25% were the others. Most everyone agreed that they had watched a music stations before. In general, though, MTV seems to have the most widespread appeal and is the most influential music television channel. If I could change my project, I probably would have asked a more random sampling of people, maybe some people at the Downtown Mall, to get a better age range and a more diverse group of people.

The best type of research method for me to use in this experiment would be a survey. I received forty of the surveys back, which is much more than I expected.
