Underage Drinking

The topic I have chosen to do my Presentation on is Underage Drinking. To many people Alcohol is just a drink, but it is something more then that, it is a deadly drug. 60% of teenagers have tried alcohol before the age of 14, and the numbers of binge drinking teens is rising. Teenagers develop drinking problems for many reasons - because they are bored, due to peer pressure, and simply because there's nothing else to do. A report last year by the National Drug Research Institute found girls aged 14 to 17 were worse abusers of alcohol than 18 to 24 year old men. Paul Dillon of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre says, "We have at least twice as many young people who were dying as a result of alcohol consumption, maybe even treble the number, than illicit drugs". In other Statistics it shows that 80 percent of under 18-year-olds drink, 50 percent binge drink. Around 10 percent of 12-year-olds drink regularly. Four percent will become alcohol dependent by their late teens. The media does not cover this topic enough, they might publish a sto

As of late there has been a lot of advertisement on Television, which stems from the Government Based Campaign called "National Alcohol Campaign". But no matter how hard anyone tries alcohol will still remain as a highly used drug In the teenage society. How many teenagers get lectured on the effects of drinking alcohol, not very many, they are lectured more on illicit drugs and the effects and problems they cause. To make it heart felt they also add a interview from a person who was alcohol dependant at a young age. A few of any pre mixed drink is good to get you into a Euphoria state, which is what a lot of people aim for, but at parties you will always see at least one person who thought he could handle more, but instead he is adding fertilizer to the garden. who gave there thoughts on the situation which detailed in aspects of consumption and where children access it from. Another paper stated "Teen drinking is a silent epidemic because we don't talk about it". ry on it once ever so often but the media focuses more on illicit drugs then Alcohol. People for this would be mainly filled of teenagers who want to go out and have a drink with some mates and relax. Most of them started off with Statistical evidence, which soon lead to advice from a Dr. Parents who are worried about there child going out and drinking and what could happen to them while they are under the influence of drugs. No matter what happens in the community teenagers will always find a way of getting Alcohol whether it be a parent, older sibling or that random guy on the street who buys it for you. Me being a teenager enjoys going out to parties and chilling with friends, but you really have to know your limits. The problem is at my age you witness and experience the way alcohol works and sometimes its not pretty, the way it gets to someone is amazing, one minute they will be happy and the next they will be trying to start a fight with the biggest guy around, but In the end you really do need to know your limits. The government is also trying to help promote the stopping of underage drinking.
