A Downright Sin

             A mockingbird is a creature of grace and great beauty, with its pleasant nature and harmonic notes, it's no wonder why the people of Maycomb are entranced with it, However, not all good in nature in To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, is a mockingbird there also includes Mr. Arthur Radley, Mr. Avery and even Mrs.Dubose's camellia bush. All of the above do not intrude, obtrude and basically keep to themselves, they are good, harmless; Mr. Radley stays in his house most of the time, Mr. Avery keeps to himself and Mrs. Dubose's camellias do nothing but give off a nice fragrance and pleasant to look at as well. To harm or disturb any of these is simply a downright sin.
             After Arthur's run in with the law, he walked into his house and was never seen until fifteen years later and even then he was rarely seen, especially by the children of the neighborhood. Of course these kids are at the peak of their curiosity, and naturally want to see if all the rumors about their strange introverted neighbor are true. They seek to make him "come out." Arthur had never done anything to these kids any yet they are constantly thinking up new ways to pester him into submission, they place letters on his porch, they spy oh him and ring his door bell and even made up a play based on his life. In this way Arthur is like a mockingbird, he has done absolutely nothing to these kids and yet they are always harassing him. In society back then discrepancy was somewhat taboo, and even today it still is. Even after all the kids taunting, Arthur wraps a blanket around Scout when she was standing outside of his, as Atticus explains to Scout, "Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn't know it when he put the blanket around you."(pg. 76). It has also been suspected that Arthur leaves little treats in a knot hole in the tree, and it has also been hypothesized that his brother Nathan filled the hole up to ...
